About the Authors

    rozumari samsara (born rosemary kikon, in Kohima, Nagaland, India) is a perforforming artist and a poet. She has performed her poems at the Copenhagen Poetry Club, Tokyo's Bar gari Gari and Berkeley Poetry Slam. Her poems have featured in Tokyo Poetry Journal and in Zubaan Books, The Many That I am: Writings from Nagaland. She was the first runner up in Copenhagen English Poetry Slam 2016.

    rozumari samsara's poems traverse the earth, one distinctive turn of phrase after another, yet always, always returning to the harsh, joyous, pious, irreverent Dimapur of her youth. With raw emotion and taut authenticity, she detects and expresses truth in her surroundings and her experiences.

  rozumari samsara's is an exilic imagination, bound to the previous even as it examines the possible. Memory, in the form of lists, faces, smells and sounds populate her poetic universe, even as her mind hovers between Dimapur and Berlin, Delhi and Copenhagen. In the event, we are called to take note of a rebel's life and how it confronts Naga tradition and family, political and social pieties. These poems belong as much to the streets as they do to the confessional and the quiet of one's room- and are best as dramatic monologues, punctuated now and then by an acute lyricism. They ought to be chanted, read aloud, performed and sometimes meditated over.
